Who Americans Are And What They Do
Angel Of Hope

He that is good at making excuses is seldom good at anything else. Actually, seldom can a theory be more incorrect. There are many concepts of the American character which are, for the most part, proven right. This one, however, is one of very few quotes of Benjamin Franklins that upsets me. See, we may make excuses and suffer yet fail to avoid the universal issue of procrastination, but that doesnt make us lack such things as talent and skill. It is of minute importance what we as a people, as a country, can accomplish. What makes a difference is that we all contribute to the revolution of this century, and we do just so. Happiness fails us, but wisdom does not; security escapes us, but benefits are our legend.
It is the working man who is the happy man. As I continuously present to you different quotes from Benjamin Franklin, I will go further into my view of the American people. I have already complimented us and will again later, but I think now is an appropriate time to add dark texture to the perfect painting I have created that stands for our disposition. This time, Franklin is right; it is long past the time to admit to ourselves that we do not work hard, and we are mostly miserable, confused, disoriented people. As an example, Benjamin Franklin himself found joy in working at printing presses. We let things happen and fortunately, we have the ethics to support each other when something bad happens. Still, its hard to keep each other trying when the world is as unpredictable as it is, and we could save a lot of perspiration by making an effort to prevent dangerous subjects from causing intentional harm. Not working can be fun and lively, but eventually, having nothing to focus all your attention on makes you lonely. It would be better for all of us to try and find a way around unnecessary problems.
He is a fool that can not conceal his wisdom. Dont believe it; its false. Pride comes naturally to us and afraid to show it we are not. Does this make us foolish? Does this make us unwise? Like the highly respected Patrick Henry, he was very cocky but also known in our country to be extremely intelligent. Being egotistical defines not our amount of wisdom but our pride and our successes. It is our examples of pride and success that define our knowledge. We brag not in order to ruin our modesty but to emphasize our wisdom. We are intelligent, and we are not blind; we are thinkers, and we are not fools. Those who look down upon us for it is in their mind that we are not smart can reevaluate us and come to find that they were wrong.
Distrust and caution are the parents of security. We are definitely a wild bunch of humans; we do what we want the way we want to do it, and nobodys opinion matters to us. Thinking through the things we do requires too much concentration for our minds to handle. Even the great and famous Mark Twain wasnt careful in one of his factual tales about handling a ship, and he got the ship in a fix because of his carelessness. It is rare and ridiculously arduous to find an American who takes precaution in their daily life, and they are the ones that die happily. They are the ones that see strategy not as a nuisance but as an act of organization and clever planning. They are the ones who dont think twice before deciding to do the right thing. For the rest of us, for the most of us, we find ourselves in trouble due to our signature lack of necessary conspiracy to prepare for the worst. It would help us to learn that craziness inevitably leads to danger. We fight until we win, but to our disadvantage, our want to win overrules our knowledge to plan ahead. In effect to this, we lose and fail just as often as we dont.
What makes us special is our ability to see the past as something that doesnt define us but makes us stronger. We look upon our mistakes as stepping stones, and we consider the future what will eventually spell out who we really are. Never will we be able to erase what we regret, and we know that; we learn a lesson as a substitute for guilt since its painfully obvious that guilt is useless unless we want to feel the burden of our own actions for the rest of our lives. Franklin said the wisest of his quotes when he declared Write injuries in dust, benefits in marble. In my words, failure is nothing but a temporary annoyance so remember them, but make sure you dont make your life depend on them. Happiness comes from what has yet to happen. Satisfaction is a result of our, the soul of Americas, next decision, whatever it may be. We may not be happy, but we will forever be wise, and we may take security for granted, but benefits are what we will be remembered by.
