Near Life Experience
Gregory W Burkett

I have been a student of enlightenment since the age of sixteen. I dedicate this personal account to all of those who are considering the ultimate surrender.

About ten years ago, I began to feel an influx of vast energy and my body began to feel like a pressure cooker. I had trouble sleeping and concentrating. This began a frantic and futile attempt to discharge the energy. I asked for help from those around me and was basically told to send the energy into the earth. I walked around the yard in my bare feet, ate grounding foods and bent my knees when I stood. My favorite exercise was to stand in the shower for long periods of time blowing into the water. I would imagine the energy returning to the ground and eventually joining the lakes and streams that were near my home. Nevertheless, the energy continued to build.

In the end, the energy would have it's way with me. I planned a night of surrender. I did not want to cause worry to my wife and son, so I went to my parents' house, where I could sleep alone. I brought my favorite spiritual books and spread them around the room. I prayed for guidance and protection. I laid down on the bed on my back and spread my arms out to the side. (I was raised catholic.) I had no more will to resist. I closed my eyes and from this point on, I had no awareness of time.

I became aware of multiple lines of energy, like wires running from my toes to the top of my head. There were disturbances in the lines like bubbles. Each bubble seemed to represent past experiences; primarily negative ones or sins. As each experience was brought to my attention, the energy would wash over it and dissolve it. I had the distinct impression that WE JUDGE OURSELVES. I repeated the mantra: What next? What next? What next? I felt like I was being cleansed. The energy flowed more and more smoothly. When it seemed nothing was left, there were two motions that felt like an erasor moving over my body from toe to head.

There appeared a brilliant realm of blue light. It had no beginning or end. I felt like I was partially in it, but I had no body and no way to judge. I called for a guide but no one answered. I decided to experiece the essence of this place. I "breathed" it.

This was something I had never felt before. It was everything all at once: freedom, joy and especially LOVE. It was my Source and Actuality. I instantly knew that all of the saints, mystics and masters were right: God is Love. The fabric of the universe is Love!

I looked back at my body and it seemed like organs of stress. I did not want to go back. However, earlier in the evening, I had planted a seed in my consciousness: no matter what happened I would return to my wife and son. I was back in my room and it was dawn.

It took a long time to adjust to physical life again and I was very disorientated. I envied those who's gone before me.

If the foundation of everything is love, what is there to fear?
