Rain (Is What This Poem Would Have Been Called)
Fizzgig McArthur

After the night I walk home slowly in the rain
I canít imagine life before the clouds came
Each drop cleanses my soul of my endless sins
Iím so alone because I wonít let anyone in

There is a place out there, in a faraway land
Where the sun is shining and this boyís not a man
Though I know It would mean Iíd loose your ear
I wish, my friend, that land was here

I try to fly, but why should I
Be so above my grounded eyes
How can I see whatís below if Iím not on top
On the broken canyon, my aged feet stop

I look out on my childlike past
I look out at the spell Iíve cast
Though my head is full, my heart is dry
My legs they run, my wings they fly

My mother tells me not to talk
The red light tells me not to walk
The rain now tells me to walk faster
Soaking in, dissolving my laughter

I reach my door and the rain slows
I run inside towards different blows
Iíve pushed and enclosed that inner pain
And underneath my roof, I still feel the rain
