Twice Abandoned
Diana Angela Chang

One thing I never understood
How you could abandon something so good
I gave you a chance
Because you were sincere at first glance
Thought youíd sing and dance
After all time and circumstance
Would assume your doings
Or lack of, your absence, your ruining
As not good enough for me
Instead I gave you the benefit
When truly you deserve no credit
Your accomplishments amount to child support debt
Your lack of care youíll regret
Youíll read about it in a book
When you weep, remember the road you took
What good is DNA?
You didnít watch me grow, laugh and play
I wish I never went looking for you
You proved the verb coward rings true
Another man who has left me perplexed
You donít get to be a part of what comes next
Shouldíve helped build the script, the text
And what of my seed
Couldnít even manage a long distance grandpa degree
You take my anger to a whole new caliber
Canít even keep a birthday marked calendar
For a simple phone call
Make them feel loved, stand tall
You are right there with him
The stepdad that also made my light dim
Two loser dads, none for the win
But he is dead, I must forgive
Or else it disrupts my choice to live
But itís your wanton disregard that we even exist
That truly makes me the most pissed
Especially since Iíve only seen you three times
I never asked you for nickel and dimes
Only to know me now as the clocks chime
You said you were very fond
Of our new father- daughter bond
Not me but for my brother you go above and beyond
All you did was give me false hope
And now men, a thing even harder to cope
I gave you a key
But somehow, so suddenly
You took a bargaining plea
To do it again, to flee
And because of you, I have no leaves on my family tree
Letís get one thing clear
I never needed you, it was all volunteer
In totality, thanks for the scar
So we have our distances and theyíre very very far
Donít know what else to say
You went and left it this way
There are no words left
Enough said, you left me bereft.
