Clutter
Nelly B Capra

chaos, lack of form
my mom didn’t teach me
how to keep
thoughts under control
to have an orderly life
dust table
organize drawers
say no to what I don’t need.
Maybe a class could help
maybe I’ll read this article
on how to solve
the worst clutter problem
in a week end.

I’ve tried it before,
for a day or two
I kept my desk really clean.
Sort that pile of paper,
take old clothes to the Goodwill
I don’t really need three books
on how to organize my life.

Then it came back
like a tidal wave
I was overwhelmed.

At the back of my mind
a doubt lingers:
do I really hate my clutter?
Maybe it deserves more respect
ike a work of art
like my image in the mirror.

If I look closely enough
I might find parts of me,
a lost dream
a hidden desire
fear of mistake
unfinished business
the history of my life.

With loving hands
I can sort through my clutter,
make piles, dust table,
organize drawer.

No rush, this is a labor of love
this is the way I am.
With patience and acceptance
everything will fall into place.
