The Embrace
R Bennett Okerstrom

Arise, my son.
Feel the fire
burn through your veins.

Grueling pain,
as the last of your soul
claws its way through your
now ashen skin.

Confusion.

For you are without conscience.
Without continence.
Complete consternation.

A great hunger envelopes you.
You shudder and tremble,
unsure of what is happening.

It is time.

You see me as a shadow, a spirit, a spectre
as I approach your ravenous body.
Fear escapes you.
You cannot scream.
Your throat full with desire.

A sharp nail surgically opens
a slit in my forearm.
A crimson bead dangles from
the wound.
Instinct draws you to your sire.

"Drink my child."
