The Talking House
D G Williford
The wisteria climbed over the front porch and stretched its fingers toward the chimney.
I wonder how old I’ll be when I reach that far.
The bricks held hands and tried to keep each other from tumbling to the ground below.
They wondered how much time they had left.
The front porch swing coughed as its chains moved in the breeze.
I wonder which wind is going to be my last.
The bloodstain in the middle of the living room floor just sat there.
I wonder if anyone will ever find out the truth.
The moss on the walkway was crunched by a pair of Jimmy Choo’s.
I wonder who is wearing those Choo’s.
