Freefall
Rebecca (Becca) Fitzgerald

 I never thought
Id die alone
You were the closest friend
I had ever known
Then, that day when you passed on
Falling away from me again
Slipping through my hands
Forever gone

They say that life
Is just a path
You follow your heart
And it will tell you where your supposed to go
You traveled your path without me by your side
I fell behind,
You left me there

The heart is just the place
Where the soul goes to die
The agonizing soul searches blindly
Not knowing where to start,
In what direction to go,
Or where to end

You searched for something
To have and to hold
Something to keep
You looked for something to grip onto
Something to keep you from passing on
You turned towards me
To save you from your fate

If you hold onto something too tightly
It will slip away
You help onto me in a last chance for stability
Held on too firmly
And I fell away

You wanted to hold me there forever
Hold me till I went down with you
But your hand slipped
Releasing me into the world
To face it alone
Misconception is mistake
Not fate

You tried to catch me again
Like a child chasing a butterfly
You wanted to be the girl that
That pulled the wings off of that butterfly
Without it dying, but forbiding it
To fly away and to be free

Its not to say that you hated the butterfly
Because you didnt
You wanted to see what would happened if you pushed its limits
You wanted to take something away to see if it could still manage to live
You wanted to take away its will to stay alive
To see what it would do
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction
Theres no denying that
It may not always be good
But thats just the science of things

You pulled off my wings
Holding me prisoner forever
Loneliness is a disease
Not a choice

You couldnt let it in
You made me take it with you
Made me suffer till I was sure to shatter
But in the end
The disease kills the afflicted
As well as the bound

When you found your resting place
I pulled away
Afraid to follow
You left
And Im here alone
Im falling toward my end
Then rising again
And falling away
And each time I do
A memory, a part of you
Is lost

Im on my way down
But Im not there yet
Your waiting for me there
And Im sure to follow
Im forever falling somewhere
But my destination is unknown
Ill get there someday
Maybe
Im not sure if Ill ever hit the ground
