Cloud Watching From A Romantic's Point Of View
Hayley Burdett

Cumulus nimbus
Dance before my eyes
Whirling, twirling.
Clouds morph into the unimaginable
Ships, rabbits, and you.
There you are,
Gracing the sky.
I remember how we used to be
Our backs pressed
So hard against
The summer grass.
A scent drifts to my nose, a reminder
Of all things that have passed
Me by.
I remember when wed
Write poetry in the wind,
Mixing up our verses,
Seeing if they would
Come back to us.
The rush of summers
Breath caresses my face.
I have felt the cool
Hand on my neck
But it isnt you.
Its just the memory
Of being alive
And the excitement of what
Used to be.
