Girl And Boy
Deb Meyer

There is a girl
who goes with a boy.
They met at work
and fell in love.
They swear theyll be together forever,
but it will never last.

You two will never last,
I told the girl.
Nothing can be forever.
Hes young. Just a boy.
Its lust. Not love.
Real love takes work.

They fool around at work.
She told me he never lasts.
They screw. Its not making love.
Soon he will find another girl,
Shell find another boy.
Again, they will swear to be together forever.

He hasnt called forever,
the girl complained at work.
When did you speak last?
A couple hours ago? Oh, boy.
She worried, Do you think there is another girl?
I thought, yes. Hes screwing. Oh no, making love.

The truth is I want the boy.
He is whom I love.
That is why I hope they wont last.
Ive wanted him forever.
I stare at them at work.
I want to be that girl.

I decided not to wait forever.
Today, I snuck off with him at work.
I became the other girl.

"Wow I really liked that poem. Being a teenager I enjoy reading poems about realationships, but this one I particularly liked. It was suspenseful and surprising, but at the same time it was a sad poem to read. You did a great job with this piece of writing." -- Jessica Parise, Normal, IL, USA.
"This was one of the greatest poems I have ever read. I think several girls or boys can relate to this situation. It seems to happen to us all if we are the other girl or the one in the relationship. This shows the true feelings that people have that no one can stop no matter if love is in the way or not. This a wonderful poem, thanks for sharing it. " -- Gina Parise, Normal, IL, USA.
