A French Fragrance In Indian Soil
Vankipuram Rajagopal Sridharan

The Train jostled on;
I woke up with a start;
I lookd over the window
and had a good gaze across.

Brown sands with lush green plants
in the midst of farm lands
I could'nt reason the sudden halt;
but I found crowd gatherin' across;

I ventured out too:
more on inquisitive;
Alas a trgedy here too !
A French petite slain across;
The track and the train found her cross

She had married the son of the soil
was it a marriage for visa ?
Her death tell tales of love
withered on a railway track
in the midst of nowhere.

A pretty little french flower
fragrance struck on a single stroke.
wheels run over mindlessly
on a soul so thoughtlessly.

Death known no Indian, French or American
It's cruel whenever it shows;
This french shall have a burial
amidst the marigold and the violets.

Alas for the French
They know not that their flower
lies yonder deep down the Indian Soil
In the midst of misty fragrance.
