Home To You
Teresa Little

Driving to Shell... you just called.
Using my last hundred bucks, gotta get to you.
Now I can't make my rent.
                             who needs rent?
Without fear, without a care... when you are across the line.
Buying the cheapest gas, gotta make it last.
No road map needed, love will push me through.
Petal to the floor, thoughts on you.
No cop can slow me,
                         going home,
on back roads and highways,
                         your smile all I see...
two laned or four,
                         so bright, so warm.
Dusk slips to night, your voice I still hear.
Blast the radio, drink the air, (Sleep - Drive - blink back the tears.)
Tank getting low, lookin for signs, so close...
                               so far away.
Watching the scenery go by with sleep riddled eyes.
Across the border, everything a blur.
                 ...only 180 miles to go.
Driving on a caffeine high the miles go by.
          Drive.
Tank hitting empty...
                              Home, to you.
