                                     Twine
Story 3 of the insinuates of hotel room 63

Why did she leave me God? Why? If you could just tell me one thing tell me why? Was it because of the drinking? Was it because of the weed? Please just tell me.
Greg put the card into the tiny slot and opened the door of room 63. He laid his suitcase on the twin size bed, and sat down in the chair opposite the TV His head ached. He needed a drink or a smoke or even a stick a gum might help. Why? Please tell me why?
The day was March 29, the first court day of his divorce. Divorce. He hated the word. He hated the essence of what it represented. Legal dissolution of marriage.
He closed his eyes for a second. I deserved it. In fact she was stupid not to have done it sooner of this to go away. . All of the things he had done wrong ran through his mind at once: the cheating, the hitting, the screaming, the drunken nights, the accident. Plus about a thousand other things.
He wanted all to go away Drink. It whispered in his ear calmly. It will make everything go away. For a few hours at least. He sat up and looked in the Hotel cabinet. Jack Daniels, Vodka, and Wild Turkey. Strong stuff. Thats what I need. He started to reach for the bottle. The way he was feeling, he wouldnt need a glass. No! Thats why youre here in the first place. He closed the cabinet door again. Oh, but I want it so bad! He was transfixed by the cabinet door. Maybe one more hangover wont hurt. He opened the door. Theres the good stuff. He reached to the back and pulled a small bottle out. The smaller the bottle, the stronger the liquor. He looked at the label. Crown Royal. Blended Canadian Whiskey.
Greg twisted off the cap and took a whiff. Umm-um. He put the bottle to his lips and drained it. As soon as it hit his tongue, he felt no different. He finished one-third of the bottle in thirty seconds. Still no effect. He threw back the rest. Nothing. What?
He tossed the bottle on the floor and went for more alcohol. One bottle of beer. Two bottles of beer. Two and one-half bottles of beer. He didnt even feel a bit drowsy. Well, either Im hallucinating, or Budweiser is the worst beer in the world. He down in the chair again. What am I doing? God what am I doing. This is exactly why she left me. He suddenly felt more depressed than he ever had in his entire life. Shes not going to come back. Im never going to meet anybody who wants to be with me. Im going to live the rest of my life in a dirty neighborhood paying three hundred dollars worth of child support each month for kids that I will never see. He started to cry. How will I ever get out of this? I cant live this way. He looked at his suitcase. Hope sprang into his mind. Unless. He walked over and unzipped his bag. He dug deep inside until he found what he was looking for. When his came out, it was clutching a six-foot piece of twine. He had planned on using to, well no reason really; he had just brought it. But now he had a reason. Its the only way not to have to live through the torture of a lonely life. Im sorry Jesus, Im so sorry.
He walked out onto the balcony. The night was clear.
He tied one end to the wooden rail, the other to his neck. He made both knots tight enough so that the wouldnt break from his weight.
Please forgive me God Im so sorry, please forgive me. He put his foot his foot on the banister and jumped over. The remaining length of the twine was longer than he had anticipated.
When the slack gave out, and he stopped falling, his neck snapped. He was still alive though, and he could hear the phone ring in his room. The hotel answering machine picked up.
Honey, Im sorry about all of whats been happening. I know you got some problems but I think we can work them out. I dont want to lose you. Call me when you get this message. Bye.
