Once A Star Always A Star

Lights were flashing all around. He stumbled aimlessly groping for safety. He pushed ahead until he was able to get to his safe spot and once there he sat and breathed a sigh of relief, wiping sweat from his face. California was hot enough without hordes of cameramen surrounding you. He put his keys in and started to back up, slowly, making sure not to injure one of the many paparazzi that surrounded him, because he knew that if he injured one that they wouldn�t take a second thought to suing him, and he knew they would win. He was their source of money, one way or another.
He pulled forward a little bit and made it to open road and escaped, for now. Their was probably another swarm at his house waiting for him. He could try and call the cops but he would lose that too. As long as they were on the sidewalk, city property, they were fine. These people seemed to always find loopholes to ruin his life.
Robert Anderson was the star of the new blockbuster and was in the works of another and because of his success and stardom he was doomed to be never alone. Robert was the hottest star out there right now and everyone wanted too see pictures of him. And he had no right to stop them.
Even a few blocks away from his house, Rob could see them on the sidewalk, and unfortunately they saw him too. Once the first picture was snapped, its sound was a call to all the others and before he could escape he was stuck in a mess of cameraman. Some he noticed were amateurs with a normal digital camera, probably trying to make a quick buck. Others were the pros with the big cameras that could see your nose hairs from twenty feet away. He crept his way through the mess for the few blocks he had left, and a distance that would have taken him a minute lasted ten.
Robert pulled into his drive way, the gate opening via his remote control, but not fast enough. The cameramen slowly shed off of his BMW as he crept closer inside his property. The gate shut behind him, giving the cameramen no second chance to sneak inside. But that didn�t make them leave. They still stayed, waiting for the chance to maybe get a shot of him through a window, or even of his dog Ruckus.
But there was one thing he could give credit to the paparazzi for. They obeyed the law. They rarely broke it. They could have followed him into his yard but they didn�t because that was illegal. They knew their boundaries. Well, most of them did. On more then one occasion, a photographer actually broke into his house to get that up close and personal shot but they were eventually ostracized from the world of celebrity photography because their photo was obtained illegally and thus useless to any magazine.
So all he needed was a way to make it totally illegal to get a shot of him. But he had no idea how that would be possible. The only thing that rob could think of was to make it that they needed his permission before they could use his face. He had to get the rights to his face.
He had to patent his face! He had to make it illegal to print a picture of him without his consent, and after finding out about this, people would give up trying to get his picture. There was no way around it! It was fool proof. Rob whipped out his phone and placed a call to his lawyer.
After a thorough explanation of his idea, Roberts lawyer, Leonard, got to work on the idea. The following morning it was enacted. Everything was legalized and ready. The only thing left was to let the people know, so Robert got on TV for a public announcement declaring this new development and all was set.
Of course their were the few paparazzi who didn�t get the message but after a quick talk, Robert notified them of the new policy. They would walk away defeated, but soon saw someone else that would bring them money and attacked.
And so for the first time in awhile, Robert could go to the store without a picture being taken of him. It was the greatest feeling. Except one day, someone took a picture of him.
�Hey, didn�t you hear? I�m off limits to pictures.�
�I�m sorry. I�m new at this.�
�yeah, well its illegal to take my picture without my permission.�
�So I�m not allowed to take pictures of you at all?�
�You can take them, but they cant be printed in any way without my permission.�
�Ok.�
The photographer stepped back and took a picture of Robert. Robert looked at him amused.
�What, are you going to have a personal picture of me for your home or something?�
The photographer was packing away his camera, seemingly done here.
�I didn�t take a picture of you, I took a picture of the car behind you.�
And he walked away confident. Robert knew something was up.
�What magazine do you work for?�
�I�m a freelancer, so I�m going to see who would pay the highest bid for my picture of that car.�
And saying nothing more he walked away. Robert went back to his house, uneasy about the whole affair. Something was up, so the next morning he bought every gossip magazine available, all for a final price of 72.59, and frantically searched through all of them. Checking every picture, from cover until end.
It took 15 different rags, but he finally found himself. He looked at himself, the car behind him. The caption under the photo said here is a new ford escalade on fifth street. But this wasn�t a photo of the car. It was a photo of Rob who was prominently in the middle of the picture. There was a small article off to the side about Rob but in no way did it reference the photo. So the photo that he happened to be in, was nothing more then a photo of a car technically. And it seemed that more and more photographers happened to want a picture of something around him it seemed. And there was no law against that.
