A City Pineapple
E Rocco Caldwell

I like the way a city pineapple feels
In the palm of my hand
Red, square and clipped at every end
It feels so real.

In the city, tell me what is real?
Is it the corner between two buildings where I take a piss in?
Maybe it's the sidewalks and the high risers
Oh, yes, and that wino I hit in the head with that city pineapple?

Why? Necessity that's why
Just as much so as a car to sleep in
A winter's coat against the cold
Momma's fried chicken (when we can get fried chicken)
That's finger licking good.

There are only certain things that are real, that are sacred
So I can't be having no wino lying in the places I take my piss in!
