A Fibber's Prayer
Colin Baker

Dear Lord, it's true
I've done some things
I said I didn't do -

I've lied Dear Lord
But in this prayer
I now confess to you -

I'm sharing sins as now I know,
That children should be truthful so,

I'm blurting out my fibs instead,
Of keeping them all in my head.

So when I cried, "I wouldn't dare
Toss my white pet rat in the air !"

Not only did I toss her up;
- Dear Lord, I caught her in dad's cup -

And when I blamed it all on Paul
For sketching on my bedroom wall,

God please tell mam that it was me;
-'Twas I, who drew that knobbly knee -

And when I groaned, "I feel so sick !
I've caught the flu from my friend Mick !"

Dear Lord, tell dad he was so right;
- I did light up and puff his pipe -

And when my sister screamed that day,
"A SPIDER'S CHOKING MY AIRWAY !"

God please tell Sarah I'm disgraced;
- I dropped that spider on her face -

And when my much loved grandpa John
Cried out, "WHERE HAVE MY BROAD BEANS GONE ?"

Dear Lord, tell grandpa I've come clean;
- I did dig up his prize broad beans -

And when I looked her in the eye
And bawled at grandma, "I DON'T LIE !"

God please tell gran 'twas I not Nick;
- I chalked hopscotch with her lipstick -

And that day when I calmly said,
"I don't know where mam's jam is kept "

Dear Lord, tell Gemma it was me;
- I spread plum jam on her CD -

So sorry if you're one of those,
Like mam, dad, Sarah, Gem and Co.

For you've all tried to learn me why,
It is so very wrong to lie.

But now I'm older I declare,
In fact I faithfully do swear,

That I will never lie again,
Except the times I must,

AMEN !

DISCLAIMER: STORYMANIA DOES NOT PROVIDE AND IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR REVIEWS. ALL REVIEWS ARE PROVIDED BY NON-ASSOCIATED VISITORS, REGARDLESS OF THE WAY THEY CALL THEMSELVES.

"Well written and humorous! Good job!!!" -- km.
"Hi 'km' and thanks for the kind comments" -- Colin Baker.
"He he, another winner from Colin - an amazingly powerful imagination or some very cheeky kids! Keep 'em coming!" -- Briony Carvalho.
""Hi Briony (what a splendid name by the way) and thank you for commenting.. You are kind in oceans it must be said.. And yes, some of my work has caused a little controversy, especially my essays, but I am happy with discussion and debate. After all, what would be the point of writing when all you do is mimmick the norm ? I'm not saying that I set out to upset, merely that I do view the world somewhat differently from the conventional preception.. -" -- Colin Baker.
"Thank you Colin! I totally agree and I have a feeling that some people get more upset than others because they are unable to debate but merely get defensive as you are standing on the toes of their ingrained morality? Keep up the work and keep your opinions as strong as they are now! We don't all want to be walking in the shadow of someone elses thoughts!" -- Briony.
"Briony said: "We don't all want to be walking in the shadow of someone elses thoughts!" And I can't think of a more considered way to put it. Bravo !" -- Colin Baker.
"This was cute...you still fibbing?" -- mattie.
"hi Mattie and thanks for comments. In reply to your specific question, I would answer that by saying : 'only when I have to !'" -- Colin Baker.
