A Modern Day Romeo & Juliet
Dedicated to my two best friends

Here we have
our modern day
Romeo & Juliet
So intrigued with one another
but parted by time & space
only we haven't ended in tragedy...
...yet
let's not begin at the end though
but rather at the start
of our unfair courtship

So it begins in fair New Jersey
our Romeo resting
admist his journey to a warmer land
where's he more aquainted with the culture
he wakes and calls upon his younger cousin
she will entertain him during the stay
and accompany him the rest of the way
"Come, visit me," she says
So he does
and what he finds is amazing
the best friend of his cousin
a beautiful girl, fair and quiet
this is his Juliet

Her eyes so bright
having a shimmer to them
her hair so fair
being kissed by the sun
her voice so soft
almost like a bell
how ever perfect was she
beautiful in every way

The attraction was only doubled
and increased as they spend the day
learning about each other
about one another's families
and friends
and lovers
Romeo's heart sank
Juliet's hand was taken

Taken by the same who broke so many hearts
who had broken his cousin's heart
but how could this lovely
fall for such a person
even after all the warnings
she still just smiled
and said, "He's really nice."

But Romeo had other troubles
he would only see his Juliet
for a few days and then again leave
leave for the warmer land
but what about his home
way off in far Ohio
where he had someone
pining for him
what about her
his Juliet meant more than the world
he would sacrifice everything
just for a chance to be with her

They said their "good-bye's"
and parted ways
but all the while
they had each other
on their minds

Romeo returned to his home
and Juliet continued on
but both were aching for each other

Days passed by
then the weeks
all without a sight of Juliet
but his infatuation never diminished
and he kept a correspndence
always listening to her
even about her lover

Then one day
Romeo returned to fair New jersey
and once again
visited his younger cousin
who reunited the two
but his Juliet still was taken
never the less he still pursued
he left again
but promised to return
for his beloeved Juliet

But Romeo's hope of living with Juliet
is shattered
all because of money
because of business

So sadly does our courtship end
our Romeo unsuccessful
Juliet left to live unloved
and because of time & space
destiny cannot be fullfilled
but forever shall the story be told
of Juliet & Romeo

"Nothing special you dare to say? By the words that you weave you "are" special. I even like how you ended it similarly to the original Shakespearean text. Please correct me if I am recalling this slightly wrong: "Never was there a tale of greater woe, than Juliet and her dear Romeo."" -- EC Allen.
"This was a nice read. I like the writers style in that its not over done. The writers words are subtle yet very affective. Well done!!" -- Amir, Birmingham, West Midlands, United Kingdom.
