Chest Of Pain
D G Williford

Open mouthed the mist of dreams
Chases life around the room

Waiting to catch my eyelids closed
Waiting for my lungs to pause

Gnashing teeth and retched breath
Emits from behind my resting head

Bleeps and blips on screens of green
Hold my soul to earthly means

Gripping nails to silver bars
Cause my bleeps to scamper more

Will I spiral into the dark
Will I fly into the light

Will I merely walk away
Into the sunshine of another rainy day…
