There isnt a lot I can tell you about the matter. All I can tell you is that the secret that was hidden has had a huge impact on our family. Seventeen years ago, the secret had started. One, one large secret plus a day destined for disaster planned our fate.
We used to own a large estate complete with a two story swimming pool and a beautiful lookout onto the canyon below. As we were out in the desert, we had private lessons and had no fear of bomb threats and local shootings.
My name is Faith Amaya Stature. I am 15 years old. This is my story. On a particular sunny July 14th, about two years ago, there was a terrible mishap. We had no idea, at first, as we were enjoying the sun as much as we could. Tyson was diving into the swimming pool, shouting "CANNONBALL!!!" and spraying water a few feet into the air. Rob was in the house, fixing us something to eat, and I was listening to my Ipod. Mom and Dad- Belle and William Stature, were tanning themselves out on the lawn.
I was singing along to one of my favorite songs when someone who looked a lot like Rob walked past me. I pulled my earphones out of my ears and asked "Rob, what'd you do with the snacks?" The man whirled around and glared at me, his emerald green eyes burning with anger-Robs eyes are a brilliantly dark blue. I backed away, realizing that this was not Rob.
I ran into the house, shouting "MOM, DAD! THERE'S A STRANGE MAN HERE!" My parents rushed into the house. "Faith," my mom cried, pulling me toward her. Rob ran down the stairs, a full backpack loaded. "Got the stuff," He explained. Dad nodded, then we looked around for Tyson. There were footsteps, then the door behind us opened.
Clay, my dad snarled. The man my father had addressed as Clay nodded to my dad darkly, then leveled a freeze ray at him. One of OUR freeze rays, at that. Just before he pulled the trigger, the power loaded down and the gun shut off. Clay frowned, shook the gun twice and looked straight into the barrel.
We ran. Though we couldnt find Tyson, we had to leave. So we were glad to find him buckled into the backseat of the Mazarati. Lets go, He urged, pulling out his large backpack from the back seat. Tyson reached back and grabbed mine for me too. I suddenly realized we had waited such a long time for this to happen, that we had already gotten emergency packs set up.
We sped down the hill at a high speed-a speed my dad would have never let us drive. But we were putting some distance between us and the madman who was after us. My dad pulled out a map of the county from the dashboard and both him and my mom started arguing about where we should go.
Slowly, but noticeably, the car started swerving off of the road.
Um...Whos driving the car? I asked. Rob grabbed the wheel from the backseat and steered the car too far to the left. Cars heading the opposite direction honked at us.
Can someone decide already? Rob asked, dodging the cars. Mom looked up and shrieked as she regained control of the wheel. Dont do that, Rob!
Rob glared at her.At least I wasnt the one that wasnt paying attention to the road! I sighed in the back. This was going to be a LONG car ride. Rob and Mom kept fighting until Tyson spoke up.
Um, Mom, Who was that guy?
Mom hesitated. The man you saw was Clay Havcon. He was your fathers business partner for a few years. Tyson looked out the window. But Mom, Dad doesnt really HAVE a business. Its more of a hobby. I reminded her, confused.
He retired a few years ago. Right after Clay turned bad.
But we never saw him, and Dad works at home.
Stop it, Faith. I dont want to talk about it right now.
But I want to know about it!
Faith Amaya Stature, if you dont stop it, I will pull this car over and wait until Clay finds us. Then I will personally see that he is handed over to you. Understood?
Yes, Mom. I stared out my window. Cars whizzed by us, their passengers not sparing a glance for a fleeing family. Dad, where are we going? Rob asked. Dad Hmmmed. We could stop by Gourmet Cooks if youd like, but we should probably split up.....
