Dumbi The Flying Tortoise.
Ebenezer Hagan

Dumbi the tortoise was like no other tortoise. He was an ambitious tortoise. As a kid, he dreamt of making his home among the skies, with the birds of the air. He was never happy on the ground. He would often tell his fellow tortoise ' I would one day live among the birds of the air, the crow and eagle, the parrot and the kiwi.'

The other tortoises would just laugh when they heard him say that, 'silly dumbi' they would scorn, 'he would never change.'

Whiles the other tortoises played, Dumbi would sneak away to the river to watch the birds that came to drink. He would ask them questions about their sky home. He would tell them, 'I shall one day live among you, with the crow and eagle, the breadmaker and parrot.'' But you hardly can walk less fly' said the birds, yet so persistent was Dumbi that they memorized his words, and when Dumbi would start, they would repeat it in jest, '....among the crow and eagle, the kiwi and the parrot....'

No one believed in Dumbi's dream, not the birds in the sky or his fellow tortoise on the ground. But Dumbi was not an idle dreamer.

At night he went round the pond, picking the feathers the birds dropped when they took their bath. Before long,he had gathered enough.

'Today, i shall fly and live among the skies, with the crow and the eagle, the kiwi and the parrot.' He declared.

He attached the wings to his shells and flapped, flapped and flapped. In the skies flew Dumbi, the tortoise. He had finally achieved his dream
