Freedom Ride
Brion' O Neil

I've been away too long, so filled with scorne;
please show me,
I've forgotten my ways, my roots are torne.

I gather with elders in the hogan of fire;
chanting to the beat of the drums so deep,
mourning the spirits of the ones they could not keep.

My meditating body is drifting up so high,
as the white winged stallion sweeps me past the sky.
I hear a whisper of the wind in my ear,
look at our ways,with images so clear.

Young brave, swift in motion,
strikes with one accurate blow.
In a man-brave ceremony,
for feather,arrows and bow
A man-brave before me, painted to show his rage;
a feeling never captured on any history page.

The spirits reach for the heavens as they rise;
showing me their stories through their mirrored eyes;
voices are heard through the echos of their pride,
swiftly moving forward on my freedom ride.

Their images are sent with a lightning crack;
their cries are heard with the thunder back.

I have lived through the answers that I've been shown,
answers to the questions in my life,
I have never known.
I have found my way, on my freedom ride;
as I walk with my ancestors at my side.
