Going Out
Saskia Dodd

Marilyn squeezed at a pimple while standing in front of the mirror.
Of course! We are going out and I break out into pimples. Thats just great.
Well he walked up to me and he asked me if I wanted to dance Emily sang as she danced into the bathroom grabbing Marilyn by the shoulders and moving her from side to side. Emilys curly hair bounced up and down as she jumped about.
Whats wrong with you? He looked kind of nice and so I thought I might take a chance
Pimples. Marilyn threw her arms into the air. I always get pimples when we go out. She stuck her tongue out at herself in the mirror.
Oh, dont worry about it. No one will even notice. Did you buy the peppermint peckers?
Yeah. I got them yesterday. I cant imagine sucking on a peppermint pecker. I was also going to get her edible undies, but I thought that would give him pleasure as well and we dont want that do we?
Emily combed her hair and applied more makeup. Personally, she rubbed her tongue over her teeth and scrunched her hair with her hands, I dont know what she sees in him, but she has to live with him I guess. She said if she wasnt married by twenty-five she was going to sit inside, watch t.v. and eat chocolate cake. Her other option was to travel the world.
Who wants it anyway? Marilyn replied as she applied mascara.
What, the chocolate cake?
No, men you idiot
Oh. Ive got chocolate cake on my mind. I would take the chocolate cake over Aaron any day. I just dont understand why she wants to marry him. Emily turned side on and leant her hip against the sink looking at Marilyn.
Maybe she didnt want to get fat sitting in front of the t.v. eating chocolate cake, and she couldnt afford to travel the world. Come on Emily, Aarons not that bad. She straightened and looked directly in the mirror. You can definitely notice these pimples. I am going to have to put on more foundation. I will look like Im wearing cement.
How can you say hes not that bad? I remember when he first moved in next door we used to joke about him and his towels. Honestly, who has their name embroided all over their towels? We knew his name long before we met him. I can remember joking with Beck to go up and say how you going Aaron, and he would say how do you know my name, and she could reply because it is all over your towels. We used to laugh about it. I couldnt believe it when she actually did it.
Yes, and look where your joking got you. They are now engaged and we are going to be bridesmaids. Beck is happier than I have ever seen her. Be nice to Aaron.
Oh I love this song. Emily pushed herself forward and raced down the hall to turn the stereo up. Even though I dont like Aaron, she continued as Marilyn walked down the hall, the wedding is a good excuse for a party and I am looking forward to Becks hens night tonight. So, what have we got? Emily rummaged through the bag .peppermint peckers. condoms. veil.and enough money to get pissed on cocktails.
Do you think these shoes look alright? Maybe I should change my jeans. Marilyn held her top up as she looked at her feet and jeans.
Mmmm. I think you look o.k. What other shoes have you got?
My brown leather ones, or I could wear my black lace ups. You know the ones with the chunky heel.
Cant say I do. Go and try them both on for me.
Marilyn put a brown leather shoe on her left foot and a black lace up shoe on her right foot.
What do you think? she asked standing with hands on her hips as she alternatively put one foot in front of the other pressing her heel and then toes to the floor.
I think the black ones, but if you are going to wear them dont forget to change your belt.
Why is it always so hard to get ready when we go out. It takes, like, an hour and a half. Normally it takes me half an hour. Sometimes I wish I was male. They dont have these problems do they?
Ah, yes, but if you were male you wouldnt be able to eat these peppermint peckers would you and what would be the fun in that? Emily smiled and threw the packet at her.
Ha, ha. Seriously though, dont you think men get it easier? She replaced the peppermints on the table and went to change her shoes and belt.
Orh yeah. In some respects I guess. But I would never want to be a man. They dont get to wear lace underwear, make up, or dance and sing around the lounge room as they are getting ready to go out. Just think if you were male you wouldnt be able to cover up those pimples would you?
Im sure if I was male I wouldnt get pimples. There how does that look? Marilyn came out of the bedroom with the black shoes and a black belt on.
Much better. Here, I made us a cocktail to have before we leave, just to get us in the mood. She passed Marilyn a glass and raised hers in a toast. Well heres to us looking absolutely gorgeous as usual and to having a great time out.
They drank and returned to the bathroom to apply more lipstick. As the taxi pulled up they knew they were going to have a great night out.

"This story was about nothing. I mean, NOTHING. I saw no purpose in "peppermint peckers". I mean, I thought you meant some kind of weird sexual toy at first, and then I realized that I was correct and lost all interest." -- Candace.
