''Who is this?!'' he screamed now, ''who in
the hell is this?!''
''Daddy? Theyr'e coming for me, daddy. They'll
be here soon....please don't let them take me.
Please don't let them take me away.''
The child sounded almost hysterical now.....
....then he heard it.
In the background, his own daughter's musicbox,
his DEAD daughter's musicbox, who had died in her sleep
of a diabetic coma, a year ago.
A year ago tonight.
He dropped the phone, jumping from the bed and
running down the hall to his daughter's old room,
bursting through the door......
.....there she was, standing there, by her bed,
almost transparent, like glass, yet with color.
She had long since putrified - now nothing
but a skeleton covered with a thin layer of
rotting flesh, black holes for eyes, a cavernous
maw for a mouth. Her Care Bear pajamas had
become part of her now, having melded together,
jelly-like, with her decayed body.

''Daddy....daddy...why did you let me die, daddy?''
He remembered now; oh, yes, how he remembered.
He'd passed out drunk on the couch, having
forgotten again to give her her insulin...
....now he remembered, now that it was too late.

''I'm sorry,'' he said, his bloodshot eyes filling
with tears. ''I'm so, so sorry, my sweet little baby..
....my sweet little Amber...''
Then she vanished.

Stricken with grief and guilt, Alan staggered
downstairs to the kitchen, rummaging through the
cabinets to find another bottle of whiskey, his
one and only true friend.
It helped him forget.
Until now.
   He finally found one.
  Sat down at the table.
Poured a glass of liquid salvation.
Drank it down.
Poured another.
Drank it down; waiting for the euphoria, the blessed,
alcohol induced amnesia to set in.
  It didn't this time.
Reality did.
  He poured another drink.
Looked at the wall clock: 2:11 a.m.
Looked at the wall phone, then back at his drink.
He could tell that the pyschological traumas
were going to be the worst.
A few seconds later, the phone rang again.

He put his hands over his ears, and began to scream.
