Spiders
Waleed Khan

A spider is a creature that has two body segments, eight legs, no wings and is not able to chew. The front segment is the cephalothorax. The spiders eyes, mouth fangs, stomach, brain and glands are located on this part of the body. The second part of its body is abdomen. The back end of the abdomen is where the silk glands produce silk. The spider has oil on its body, so the spider will not be able to stick to its own web, thats a good thing!

Sticky Facts:

Spiders can survive anywhere in the entire world
There are over 30,000 different species of spiders
Young spiders need to shed their exoskeleton, thats hard to do
Male spiders are usually smaller than females
Spiders can be as big as a dinner plate
The Black Widow may be harmful but it has predators like, the praying mantis and wasps

Silk Strength:

All spiders produce silk, but not all spin webs. Silk is used for many things like climbing, creating webs, building walls in burrows, building sacs and wrapping its prey. Spiders eat worn out silk and create fresh new ones.

Venomous Spiders:

All spiders have fangs with venom in them. Most spiders venom paralyze its insect victim long enough to devour it, but few other spiders in reality kill their prey like the Black Widow and the Brown Recluse spiders. A tarantula's bite can be painful but it is not dangerous.

Hunter Spiders:

Hunter spiders are spiders that do not create webs and they have other ways of getting food. Hunter spiders have very strong, fast acting poison and have sharp fangs that kill much bigger insects than its own size.
The Trap-door spider digs a hole to live in and spins a silk entrance to cover the hole. It will wait in its hideaway peeking through a partially open entrance, and when an insect walks by it devours it!

Soup Please:

Spiders cannot chew or swallow. When the spiders inject poison into their prey, it turns the internal organs of insect to a liquid and the spider just drinks it.

Scared Spiders?

Because they are small in size, spiders have several enemies including birds, lizards, toads, and human beings. One of the spiders worst enemies is the Spider-Wasp.

Black Widow Spider

The female Black Widow spider is the most poisonous spider in North America. It has red 2 blood red triangles in an hourglass shape on the underneath side of her body. The silk of this spider is known to be the strongest of all silk. Black Widow eats her mate only when she mistakes him for a meal!
