The Axe Man
E Rocco Caldwell

Traveling the leaf swathed road to the event
A misty morning
A vivid autumn morn
Frost and chill beneath a blanket of haze
Even colder I reckon at the place's end?

Dotted on the landscape finds barns, silos
Barbwire and a broken wooden fence
The dull glimmer of the blade
Reminds me of my journey's end

The slow cacophony of eager huffs
The wagon wheels grind
Tells me I grow closer to that time
My face is cold and stern

I could travel to the sky
In hopes of redemption
Because of my profession
A chance to sleep quietly

I could touch the face of God
Feel the warmth of the sun
But for now there's just the journey's end
And the pay of a job well done

READER'S REVIEWS (2)
DISCLAIMER: STORYMANIA DOES NOT PROVIDE AND IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR REVIEWS. ALL REVIEWS ARE PROVIDED BY NON-ASSOCIATED VISITORS, REGARDLESS OF THE WAY THEY CALL THEMSELVES.

"A poem about farms and wagons. This was the kind of thing we dreaded to read back in high school out of shear bordom. Why is the author glorifying fields of haze and sun, they just happen. I give this poem an overall 1, because I think the author should have taken an axe to this poem a long time ago." -- Gary Kolarski, Washington , DC, USA.
"I appreciate your opinion but this poem is about so much more than what you reviewed. I see you missed the centralized meaning of the poem and perhaps that's my fault as the author. " -- e. rocco caldwell.
