The Fog of War
By: Sean M Payne
St. Paul to New Orleans
Straight back to the Capital D.C.
How long did it take me to see?
All of the names found on the wall
The list is long as I hear their call
They call out to you and me
Fight for freedom and liberty!
Tours of the Japan line, Vietnam and the South Seas
All of the other countries that weve never seen
Well fight for you, if you fight for me
For a better lifeWhat more could they need?
Love and understanding...not misery
They fought for us, so why should it be?
That you and I enjoy Liberty
While others live in poverty
From Washington to the families
Fight! Fight for your Country
Soldiers marching, guns and all, in unity
Stand tall, be strong and dont be afraid to leave
How many half to die before we agree?
That the Fog of War is blinding
It blinds men from seeinganything
Through the lives and timesthroughout history
Why havent we learned from what weve seen?
The road is long and hardTo get back to we.
The Monuments go up...for remembering
For the brave, the bold and the hardworking
The Fog of War has blinded me
Men and Women came from long and far away
In hope ofbetter days
JFK made his way through
Through the Fog of WarOh will there be more?
How many more...are in store?
Written on 5/29/05 in memory of Memorial Day
Inspired by the Errol Morris film: The Fog of War.
Dedicated to those who did not survive the Vietnam WarNo we do not forget you
