The Rescue
Justin B William Justice

He sat in the dark. The blue flickers of light from the TV screen illuminating his features. Black hair framed his handsome face. His eyes were large and very green. several days of beard growth added to the shadows of darkness that played around his face. She would be home soon, he could feel her approaching the quiet street she lived on. He could feel the pressure building inside him. The home he sat in was not his, only borrowed for this moment. There would be no stopping this time. As he considered this a bright light flashed through the open window as her car turned into the drive next door. He could hear the sound of her car door open and the rustle of shopping bags, no other sound could be heard outside. No children played, no dogs barked, not even the dull hum of crickets. It was as if they knew, as he did, the time had come. He rose from the chair the muscles in his body flexed and rippled as he stretched to his full height. At that moment the darkness flooded across his eyes for the last time and he crumpled to the floor. Michael was changing.

Angelina dropped the heavy bags on the floor just inside the door. That will wait. she said to no one as she headed for her bedroom. She ran her hands through her dark hair and began to undress. As she slipped on her old shorts (she just couldnt bare to part with them) she heard a sound. A soft buzzing like an electric current was coming from the living room. Hello? she called but the buzzing was the only answer she received. Curious she walked from her bedroom and into the living room. Everything seemed to be in order but where was that sound coming from she asked herself.

He watched her move from room to room. No curtain or wall could impede his vision now, he was himself again and nothing could stand before his drive for her! He walked slowly towards the front door as silenced greeted him in the darkness.

She felt him! Felt the surge of power and danger that stood just outside her door. She could feel electric surges pass through her as the buzzing grew louder in her head. I will not scream, I will not scream. she chanted softly to herself as the hairs on her arms began to tingle and tickle her.

He felt her! Could feel the call that drew him to her grow. Surges of power rushed through him! The door was nothing! Paper and paste to the power that stood before it. As he reached for it, as if repelled by the energy that flooded from him, the door flew away from its frame and into the room where she stood. Ash fell around her feet as what was left of the door fell to the floor. There eyes met and for the first time he spoke to her, I have come for you! Her bright green eyes grew large as she replied, I have been waiting. He approached her, gliding across the floor without moving, one hand reaching for his goal. She reached for him and could feel herself being pulled towards him, the buzzing around her was like a storm of wind and power. She saw nothing but his eyes as they touched for the first time. As they embraced each other she remembered everything; who she was, the crash, the pain, and the hopeless call for help. Yet, he had come. Their bodies began to glow in a blue aura of light, as his lips touched hers the light engulfed them. From the street (if there had been a witness) the light was blinding as it flooded through the windows and the open door. I am home she thought and they both were gone. A soft wind blew in the street out front. The crickets began to sing and life on Terra continued
