Twisted Racism
August Nyghts

I am French Vanilla through and through
Oh and guess what damn proud of it too!

I was raised among chocolate brothers and sisters
Told each other jokes and made midnight whispers

Together we scrambled in the streets
Sharing hop-scotch wishes and ju-ju-bees

Teased cars and passerbys with water balloons
Raced inside to watch our favorite afternoon cartoons

We would laugh and play all day
Then duck and dodge our mothers when night came.

Grown up now I often feel an uneasy stare
For what? my light complexion and fair hair.

Then-I turn to see
And feel myself become angry

Why are YOU hating on ME?
To that low degree.

Are you having a bad day?
Is there something you wish to say?

I did not hold you down
I did not ban you from any town

I did not crack a whip

Or beat anyone with chains
I did no hangings

Or kick in ones brains

I did not hold you back
Because youre black

I am not a slave trader
Or white knight raider

I was not even alive in those days
Still I feel a turn of ignorance burn

Why should I bare your hatred when you look at me?
Why should I have to step lightly?
Why should I feel I have to hide me?

Because I am white to you!
Because I am not a black sista to you!
Because I am no more than a black spot in history to you!

If you can not see past MY skin color
How can I see past your ignorance?!

you see me white
awe she must have a better life
I grew up in Southwest Detroit

So this is my home too!!!
But you dont have a fucking clue
Of what I went through

My sister could be black
but you...You
would never take the chance to know that
would you - Damn fool

Dear God if we could just learn to smile at each other more
Perhaps there would be fewer killings of our hearts at your door.

Oh! the honor of black history month
What a joke
Martin Luther King Jr. would choke
If he knew what his dream turned into
Commercialized spit to spew and spew
Now, talk about segregation - And tell me
Can you name any white people who helped to liberate thee!
Black people are no longer suppressed
So Please Get the hell Off It!

"Whoah... Came across an ignorant, closed-minded individual I take it. Being judged by the color of your skin, whatever shade, sucks. Your anger is evident in this one, as always! " -- Tessa.
"I like this poem. Keep up the good work. " -- Alberta .
"thanks Tessa and Alberta" -- August.
