Slain Vs. T-Rex (4)

“We can stop off now, get Slain in the car, the Raptors aren’t here anymore” explained Leigh as she slammed the brake on; they were just reaching the west side outskirts. They were bored again, no action for about half an hour, just driving. In the other car Ben was becoming extremely bored, coming up with games like “pass the grenade”, which Maria decided not to play. Both cars stopped on the side lane, with everyone getting out quickly to refresh their legs. Leigh looked on top of her car, Slain wasn’t there, and he was supposed to be hanging on. “Where’s Slain guys?” she asked quietly, almost knowing the answer herself. Ben climbed on top of the car himself to observe, “there’s no scratch marks or anything, he let go freely it seems”. Everyone turned to Leigh as she layed her M16 on her shoulder and thought about the next course of action. “Everyone back into the jeeps, I hate to say it, but he’s probably dead now” everyone dropped to the floor in disbelief, they all loved him, he saved them all. Maria immediately started to cry, the only two people up were Leigh and Ben. Jamie fired shots into the air in complete anger. He couldn’t of died, he was a hero, he saved them, sacrificed his own life. Maria loved him, the only man she had really loved for a long time, and he was torn away from her. “Come on, everyone, back into the cars okay, I’m sure if he was still alive he would want us to make it out of here, so come on” Ben said firmly yet comfortably. As Slain was gone, it was up to Ben, Jamie and Leigh to bring the lot to safety. Away from the dinosaur threat, now the almost invincible Slain was defeated, the dinosaurs were coming for them, for fresh meat. They had little time, but they only had a few miles to go, until they were at the rendezvous point. The end of the threat was near.
“This isn’t real, it can’t be real, it just… can’t be… I loved him, I cared, he’s not gone… he can’t be…” the thoughts of confusion settled in Maria’s troubled mind. She could remember the first time they met, the first time they laid eyes upon each other. They met in the most comical of ways, her, hiding in a locker, and then almost knocking herself out when she hit the floor outside. He was so serious, so down to earth, like the air above her, and the mud down below, everything about him was real. Something from the heavens must have created him, a man with extreme talent, a man who knew exactly what he wanted, a man who had a troubled mind, but was pure inside. A saviour, the real hero of their time.
The car was completely silent; everyone was trying to come up with an excuse to not accept what had happened, to not accept that Slain, who seemed invincible, had died. He had fallen, where the rest of them had stood still and firm. Not even the sound of the road below them, whizzing past with speed could be heard. Time dragged on and on. Every white marker, shade of the sky and blood stain on the road filled the team with memories of Slain. “We’ll be there in about 15 minutes okay guys?” said Leigh, breaking the silence.
The car stopped hard, everyone climbed out slowly, with their heads directed to the hot tarmac of which they stood. Morale had dropped hard and hit the deck with a massive blow; Slain was the heart of the team, the force that drove them forward into the light, when they were consumed in the dark. Leigh moved around to the rest of the lot as they sat on the floor. “Look guys, if Slain were here now, he would of made it wouldn’t he? He would of gone into this skyscraper, and got the hell out of here, there was a reason why he died, it was to save us, don’t let his death lay in vain, COME ON, FOR SLAIN!!” she shouted, boosting the teams morale again. Everyone picked up their guns and prepared for the last battle, of an extremely tiring set of days. Only forty floors kept them away from winning the ultimate prize, life. “I’ll check the elevator, it’s a long shot, but it might be working,” explained Jamie as he reloaded his MPK for the final fight. It was do or die time, they didn’t have Slain to bail them out anymore. This was the ultimate test of courage, skill, and determination. Who ever made it out alive, deserved it, who ever fell, deserved it. Leigh held her M16 firmly in hand, Ben had armed himself with a crowbar that he found in the side of Leigh’s jeep, Emma found a pistol that she kept from Slain’s house, Sophie had a knife that was fairly small but just big enough to do damage, Mel had her RPK machine gun which was more then enough to save her against many of the threats inside the skyscraper, Jamie had his MPK fully loaded and Maria held Slain’s sword in her hand, feeling his sweat on the holder.
“This is it, I have to save them, pull them through”
“It’s my chance to show them I’m not a bad person, it’s my chance for redemption”
“I know I haven’t been much help, but I will be now, I can’t die now, I’ve got too much to live for”
“What have I done? I could end up dying because of this”
“I am a fighter, always have been, always will be, I have to live”
“I can’t leave my dreams behind, I can’t end it now, I have too much to live for”
“This is for you, Slain”
the door blasted wide open, the team gathered their thoughts, and ran into the dinosaur nesting ground…

Chapter 11: This Times For Real

Flashes of gold cut the air, blood spurred everywhere. The constant sound of reloading and bullets ricocheting of the walls blinded the human attackers. The receptionist area seemed like a giant nesting pit for dinosaurs, eggs and mothers laid here, although it felt morally wrong, they had to be slaughtered. Line after line of various carnivores attacked, Ben armed with his crowbar ran into the firelight, beating dinosaurs senseless with his weapon. Within a few minutes, the first floor was taken but at a heavy price. Much ammunition was wasted; they needed the elevator to work if they had a chance. “Get to that elevator Jamie, we’ll check the perimeter, Sophie stay with me, Emma and Mel go with Ben, Maria, go and help Jamie, lets get going guys!” Leigh ordered quickly. Everyone moved quickly to their destinations, something pushed them forward, gave them extra determination to live.
Jamie flipped open the elevator control system, and began to talk “this’ll take awhile, it helps if I talk to someone, you don’t mind?” he asked. Maria looked around, and then nodded at him. “Thanks, it’s a real help, I hate to ask, cos of what’s happened, but did you really like Slain, in that way?” Maria looked around again, she didn’t want to answer but she did anyway “yeah I did, everything I wanted in a man, was in him” Jamie tried to think of a funny back up line, with about 3 seconds gap between sentences, he spoke “just like a fajita roll then, everything good wrapped in one haha” they both laughed, the first laugh for awhile. Jamie tapped away then suddenly looked weirdly at the controls. “What’s up?” asked Maria. “Get Leigh, we’ve got a problem”.
“What’s wrong, what’s the problem” Leigh asked quickly, time was of the essence. “One of the pullers have been severely damaged, if we use the elevator, it’s at a huge risk” Jamie explained as he stood inside the elevator. “We have to take the risk I’m afraid, EVERYONE, get in, come on” she ordered. Everyone ran inside, knowing the risk that it involved. Jamie tapped the up button and the elevator jolted to life. With every level, anticipation grew larger and larger; strains of the weakened puller could be heard throughout the whole building. Everyone stayed silent; it was a huge risk they were taking.
A loud screech came from the elevator shaft way, it was a glass elevator, the floor was sturdy, and the glass wasn’t. Suddenly without warning, the elevator puller snapped. The elevator tipped to one side, the glass shattered easily, and suddenly Jamie was holding everyone back with his own body. Ben struggled away, and being the madman that he is, he started to beat into the steel door with his crowbar, continually beating it down. Dent after dent engraved the door, with the madman’s anger building he attacked over and over again. “You can’t break through it! That’s impossible, it’s pure steel!” Maria shouted out. Without her counsel Ben continued to beat at the door. “I can’t hold you guys up much…. Longer…” Jamie grunted out, he was carrying a lot of weight on his back. The door was fully indented, bent outward, that was an achievement itself, but there was no way he could break through the door. The saviour attacked and attacked, his hands and arms started to bleed from strain. After about 3 minutes of attack upon the strong elevator door he stood back. With his shoulder first, no thought entered his mind, he was truly insane. With a dive at the door, it busted open revealing a conference room, empty of dinosaurs. “Come on, get out of the there now!!!” Ben screamed.
Jamie held his might for a minute longer, keeping a firm statue as long as he body could possibly go. One after one they climbed out of the elevator, trying not to damage the already damaged elevator, at any moment the last puller could snap. It would send their lives into a spiral of death. Everyone was out except for the tired out Special Agent. He looked up at the door and started to climb, pressing his hands against the sidewalls of the elevator. The echoes of strains of machinery occurred throughout the elevator’s vertical passageway. “Come on Jamie, your almost here mate, your almost free” whispered Ben slowly and quietly. He was inches away from safety, until the last puller snapped and the elevator fell fast. With his last attempt for life, Jamie jumped through the elevator ceiling and grabbed a wire connected to the falling elevator. He leaped for life, miraculously making the jump.
Everyone was safe, it seemed like a miracle from god, but they had made it through, they were now in the conference hall, on level 31, only 9 more levels to go to get to the extraction point on the roof. There was a large window that let them see the view outside, it was foggy. The sun’s light seeped in, illuminating the conference room. Everyone sat down; they needed a break from the last 30 minutes. There was a large wooden table, with several chairs placed around it. The table was rounded and looked neat; the door was locked, so nothing could get in, but whoever was inside, could get out. The team were in a great position; they only had a set of levels to go. Once they got to the stairs, they could have more of a chance for survival.
Emma picked herself up; with her pistol in hand she walked to the window. The view was amazing, what she could see of it anyway. The red sun shone through, showing her medium length brown shining hair. Everyone slammed their weapons on the table; suddenly the once vacant conference table now became occupied, guns, knives and swords crammed onto the table. “Hey guys, I think something’s out there, I’m not lying, come see” Emma informed.
The window smashed with a mighty blow, Emma stumbled onto her back as she looked above. A Pteranodon, which wings containing much strength with its large size. It had a long mouth, and its feet had claws for hunting. Before anyone could react quickly enough, the Pteranodon had hold on Emma’s leg, digging its sharp claws into her feet. With absolute terror in her eyes, Emma dug her fingernails into the finely crafted red carpet as the flyer tried to drag her away. Leigh jumped to grab her hand. As she dived over the table she grasped her M16 and began to fire. By the time she had landed on the floor, Emma was being held up by the dinosaur in mid air. She had passed out from the pain and blood spurred out harshly from her foot. Everyone picked up their guns and started to fire away. The beast took several hits to the head and started to split the air as he fell. His grip around Emma released but her death was sealed, there was no way they could save her.
